Dirty Bellboy
East Berlin, 1960-1989
Re-built after the fire-bombing of Nazi Germany’s capital, one of Europe's grandest hotels found itself behind a Wall, and an Iron Curtain. The Communist puppet government commandeered the bourgeois colossus to accomodate foreign dignitaries, and spy on them.
The Stasi engaged or coerced many East Berliners to report on their comrades' lives. Among their informants was Alois K., a bellboy at the once-glorious old hotel.
From the Stasi files: Alois K.
K.’s assignment was to arrange encounters between Party-sponsored prostitutes and visiting diplomats, businessmen, military personnel. The women subtly interrogated their clients, and relayed information to their handlers for political and economic blackmail.
Bellboy K., eager to please the shadowy State operatives, rigged the rooms set aside for “honey trap” situations with photographic apparatus of his own devising.
“Sagen Sie bitte, Käse!”
K. provided the Stasi with the most compromising images, kept others for his personal use.
When times got tough, as they often did, in the years before Glasnost, Alois K. traded items from his private photo collection for alcohol vouchers. His black market venture was soon discovered by his former bosses. He was the last East Berliner to be executed, presumably for not following Party directives blindly.

Ricostruito dopo i bombardamenti della capitale della Germania nazista, uno dei più eleganti hotel d'Europa si trovò dietro un Muro, e una Cortina di Ferro. Il governo fantoccio comunista utilizzò il colosso borghese per ospitare dignitari stranieri, e spiarli.
La Stasi costringeva molti berlinesi dell'est a cogliere informazioni sulle vite dei loro compagni. Tra i loro informatori era Alois K., impiegato come fattorino al vecchio glorioso albergo.

l’Incarico di K. era combinare incontri tra prostitute sovvenzionate dal Partito e diplomatici, industriali e militari in visita dall'estero. Con sottile estro le donne intervistavano i loro clienti e trasmettevano informazioni ai loro gestori per ricatti politici e/o economici.
Fattorino K. si mostrava compiacente agli ombrosi agenti. Ha attrezzato le camere riservate per le operazioni “Erotik Kommando” con apparecchi fotografici artigianali.
Forniva gli scatti più compromettenti alla Stasi. Altri li teneva per il suo uso personae.
“Nicht schießen! Kamerad!”
Nei tempi duri precedenti la Glasnost, K. scambiava immagini dalla sua collezione privata contro buoni per bevande alcoliche. La sua impresa venne presto scoperta dagli ex padroni. Alois K. è stato l'ultimo est berlinese a essere giustiziato, presumibilmente per non aver seguito ciecamente le direttive del Partito.
